Hi Beverly,
I believe the Mark Ray, wife Mary, is my husband's Grgrgrandfather who
came from Randolph Co, NC in 1830 and settled on Rock House Prairie,
Buchanan Co. His son, Chesley, did indeed, go to California in 1850
to seek his fortune. Apparently he didn't find it and returned to
marry Jane Dear and raise a family. I'm also curious about the John
RAY who came from NC in 1857 and whether he is related to Mark RAY.
Is there any mention in the DeKalb Co book about a Jonathan W. COOK, a
Methodist minister, who had farms near Amity and Fairmont? His
daughter, Mary Edith, married Chesley's son, Joshua. Mary had
sisters, Malissa, who married Austin CRAIG and Sina Alta, who married
Oliver G. PARSONS.
Thank you so much for your offer...I would love to have any and all
information concerning these families.
Fran Ray, Shasta County, CA
