Could have been I suppose. I just couldn't say. They are so lost that I
have found so little reference to them. The following is one of the few
references I have for Riggs.
4 Sep 1757. Sussex Co., DE., Wills Liber B, folios 138-140 and Del Arch
Vol A95, pg 27. Will of James Reed. Names eldest son John, youngest son
Thomas each to receive half of the plantation and woodland. John to be
the executor. Names other children James, Joseph, Jesse, Isabella Reed
and Sarah Reed, and grandsons Joshua and James sons of Mark Rigs and
John, the eldest son of Benjamin Edgin. No wife is named. Witnesses:
John Chadburn, Joshua J. Ready, and Susannah E. Onley. Probated on 10
Oct 1757 with John Chadburn and Joshua Read giving their oaths as to
their witnessing of the will of James Reed.
There were definitely Rays in that part of Delaware/Virginia/Maryland
also:
And finally, one page from Settlers of Maryland 1766-1783 by Peter
Wilson Coldham: Gives county, name, name of tract, acreage, date,
reference numbers Burdock RATLIFF, David RAWLINGS, Gassaway RAWLINGS,
John RAWLINGS, Benjamin RAY, John RAY, John RAY Jr, Nicholas RAY, William
READ, Christopher REAVER, John REDDISH, Nicholas, REDDISH, Thomas How
REDGATE, Thomas REDMAN, Ezekiel REED, Henry REED, John REED, Mary &
Elizabeth REED.
The surname Reed is the one that I am basically looking for in the
Delaware/Maryland/Virginia (Eastern Shore) but a number of other names
are connected.
