Until about 1880 my family spelled the name as Rhea, thereafter my particular branch began spelling the family name Ray. One
story handed down is that an ancestor researched the family and found that the original spelling was actually Ray.

Another family story is that he didn't like sharing the Rhea name with a South American bird which resembles an ostrich.

Apparently whatever the spelling, we are all family.
