I, too, have found my Rheas (which was the most recent spelling used by
my family) also spelled as Ray, Rea, Rae, and Wray. I think that you are
correct that all of these variants need to be checked. Perhaps it was
not the intent of the family to spell the names in all these different
ways but record keepers are probably the blame for it. Although, I think
there were probably different families who intended their names to be
spelled Ray, for example, but it was sometimes spelled other ways.

I for one will also be looking for all the spellings in my research.
