In response to the question, where did the name PERKINS come from?:
In "The Tennesseean in Persia and Koordistan," 1869, being the record of
Samuel Audley Rhea, his children are listed with reasons for some of their
names:
Descendants of Samuel Audley Rhea
1 Samuel Audley Rhea 1827 - 1865
. +Sarah Jane Foster
........ 2 Annie Dwight Rhea 1861 -(Annie named for her grandmothers
and Dwight Marsh, a missionary and author of S. A. Rhea's biography)
............ +Samuel G. Wilson
........ *2nd Husband of Annie Dwight Rhea:
............ +Stephen Peabody
........ 2 Foster Audley Rhea 1863 -(Names from father and mother)
........ 2 Robert Leighton Rhea 1864 - 1865("named after the Holy
Archbishop Leighton..."p. 317)
........ 2 Sophia Perkins Rhea 1866 - 1907(although the reason was not
explicitly given, I strongly suspect that she was named after Dr. Justin
Perkins, who was a missionary preceeding and working closely with Samuel
Audley Rhea)
............ +William Dulles, Rev.
Hope this helps
Robert E. Rhea
