Pat & List,

The Battle of Point Pleasant was fought at Pt. Pleasant, Virginia, now
West Virginia, located on the Ohio River. The members of Robert Doack's
company were mostly from that part of Fincastle and Botetourt Counties
that became Montgomery County in 1776, two years after Lord Dunmore's
War. The list below is identical to that published in William Armstrong
Crozier, Ed., VIRGINIA COLONIAL MILITIA, 1651-1776, pages 79-80. I have a
copy of the original list found in the Draper Manuscripts, 3QQ 34, 35, and
dated June 2, 1774. Crozier referred to the same source, but to 3QQ 63.
He did not list the names in the order found in the original document.
There were seven officers and 112 privates in the company. John Reagh was
No. 99, and his brother, Archibald, No. 100. The first name on the
original list was not "John" Stephens, but "Jehu" Stephens, Lieut. Jehu
Stephens became a Colonel in the Revolutionary War. He owned property
adjacent the the Reaghs on Cripple Creek, in that part of Montgomery
County that became Wythe County in 1789. A brief sketch of him is given
in the Draper Manuscripts, 30S 79-80. His daughter, Mary Stephens,
married Robert Reagh, the younger brother of John and Archibald Reagh.
The three along with their sisters, Ann, Isabella, and Elizabeth, were the
children of Robert and Sarah (Bingham) Reagh, and the grandchildren of
William and Elizabeth (Clark) Reagh/Rhea.
