The families 1-677 in the census listing order lived south of the Cumberland
River. The rest lived north of the river.
For families 1-677 (south of the river) the census listing order is probably
consistent with the route traveled by the census taker in gathering the data.
The census listing order for families 678-1083 was alphabetized by first name
when the data was recorded by the census taker (or clerk). Thus for families
north of the river, the census listing order is not helpful in determining
which families were neighbors.

Families 720-722 were designated as "free colored" by the census taker. All
others were white.
