there a possible connection? My book lists the ministers as following:

(listed separately) James McClain from 1859-1859, one marriage
performed.

xx(176-177) John McLain appointed Commissioner in Tyger's Valley.
---------
A John McLain was the commissioner of the Land Office in Madison Co.,
AL, in about 1820, I believe it was. I have an interest in Tabitha
McClain who married James McCain in Madison Co., AL, in 1816, and I have
wondered if John McLain might be her father. Because the John McLain
above was a commissioner of some kind in Tyrer's Valley in 1779, do you
suppose that he could be the same person who was land commissioner in
Madison Co, AL, in about 1820? It sounds as though I should do a little
research in Augusta Co., VA ()
