Thanks Mary, that's a very generous offer. I've been trying for over a year to
find information on John W. Rea, born about 1809 in South Carolina. I believe
he was born in or around the Greenville area, then called the 96th district I
think. There's a story that he was the son of an immigrant from France who
stowed away on an incoming ship. We do not know his father's name (even if it
was Rea or not) or heritage (if he was french or just came in from France).
When I heard this I was quite surprise as I never had any idea that I might be
from French heritage. We always thought our forefathers were from Ireland or
Scotland. No one in the family seems to know much more about this. If your
lookup can help unravel this mystery that would be great.
John is my gg grandfather. He had 6 children, Andrew, Thomas, Louisa, Emily,
Samuel and Charlie. John was married to Rachael McWilliams and they lived in
Mississippi. He was a carpenter. He is buried somewhere around Jackson in Hinds
County. Many of his children eventually left Mississippi and moved to Texas, I
presume as part of the Texas fever.
Thanks for your response and help.

Dennis,
I am descended from REA. Johnston REA with brother Joseph, sister (?),
and mother Lucinda who emigrated to Canada in 1818, then to PA in 1820.
Johnston and Joseph settled in Ohio. Lucinda is found in the 1850 census
living with Joseph in Ohio. This family is from Co. Fermanagh, Ireland.
I also watch this list, for a "just in case".
I have copied the birth and christenings, from LDS, for the various
spellings of REA from Ireland. There are 38 pages. Some of the spellings
are REA, RHEA, WRAY, REAGH, REE, RAY, REY, and REAY. I was appalled to
read from the response that they would not look up anything for a person
unless they were a member. If there is a name (give me an approximate
date) that you would like me to look up I would be glad to ....... no
money involved. I went to quite an expense to copy this, but I felt that
others in the North of Ireland had helped me (don't think I had posted
here) and I wanted to be able to help others. Do Unto
Others..............
