Sarah's father, John Bingham, died shortly before March 16, 1774, at
which time his son, John, was appointed administrator of his father's
estate, John having died intestate (Augusta Co., VA, Will Book V, page
219). In 1749, the elder John Bingham purchased 302 acres from William
Beverly (Augusta Co. Deed Bk. 2, page 469). On April 18th, 1780, John
and wife Jane, "and Sarah Bingham, wife of John Bingham, deceased," sold
"the plantation in Beverly Manor John Bingham now lives on" to Thomas
Scott. Thus we find that Sarah (Bingham) Reagh was named after her
mother. Her brother, John, moved to Botetourt County by 1779
(Delinquent, Augusta Levy for 1779). Because Sarah's father had no
will, it is difficult to ascertain if there were other brothers and
sisters. A witness to the deed of 1749 was George Bingham, relationship
unknown.
