John Ray bought 169 acres on Smith's Creek, Rockingham Cty., VA 30 May 1769. His neighbors was Reuben Harrison. Others on Smith's Creek included John Needham, Thomas Moores, Jeremiah Harrison, Solomon Turpine, Townsend Mathews, Jacob Dickenson, John Ewin(g), William Hinton, John Harrison, Jonathan Hilyard and John Alderson.
John Alderson was the minister of the Smith's Creek Church where Susannah Ray, w/o John was bapized in 1772. Four years later the congragation met at Big Spring (now Lacey Spring) to excommunicate John Ray and John Conner with whom Susannah was "involved."
It is known that John Alderson moved on to the Monroe, WV area about 1792. Has/is anyone out there working on John's family? I'd love to hear from you.
