James:
The web site that Dorothy refers to is at the Library of Virginia in
Richmond, not the University of Virginia. The library's home page is:
http://leo.vsla.edu.lva/lva.html. The site she referred to is the
Electronic Card Indexes. They also have a web page for Digital
Collections: http:image.vtls.com/. This site includes an Index to
Wills, Virginia Colonial Records, a Guide to Virginia County Court
Records, etc. It has a link for downloading and installing the
VTLS-TIFF Viewer. Their Genealogy Home Page is
http:leo.vsla.edu/archives/genie.html. I have used these sites quite
extensively. I have been at the library twice, more recently for three
days in May. The library and the Augusta County Courthouse are both
excellent sources for Rhea research in Virginia. The library has
microfilmed records from many Virginia counties. Augusta County is
currently cataloging many boxes of old records, including many that
weren't included in Chalkley's three volumes. The work should be
completed by the end of next year.
