Subject: VA land grants, wills, military records on the internet
Greetings,
I found this on the "TURK" message boards. The Univ. of VA has
photocopies of various old documents - wills, deeds, military records,
etc. on the internet indexed by surname. I have included the original
message below. Even if you don't find what you're looking for, it's
fun. Enjoy.

Subject: Turk VA Land Grants, 9/30/98

Hi Everyone,
I am back on line after a couple of months of vacation and other
business. I really had withdrawals from my genealogy and computer and
am slow to get going again. Ha!
I have found a wonderful site from the Univ of Va. on Land grants, etc
and Thomas TURK Sr and Jr. are listed in Augusta Co on 6, June 1792.
My computer set up will not print out the land grants [Tif files] but a
friend has one that does. I have found Carmacks and Rouses on this site
- can't wait to keep searching. Now I have copies of the original land
grant deeds of the land where my Husbands family lived. Here's the
website I mentioned. It's fabulous!
http://image.vtls.com/collections/ Let me know if it doesn't work, I
will check my typing.
I tried to paste a page from the card file - it didn't work. Turks
are in the index on card 46- 47- 48 of the surname list closest to TURK
[TUNSTALL]. Find a name close to the one you are looking for, then plus
and minus untill you hit pay dirt. Many people came through or lived in
VA.
Regards, Dorothy
