The last will and testament of James Ray Jr.
In the Name of God Amen
I James Ray Jr of the county of Ashe & State of North Carolina
Being of Sound mind & memory do make & ordain this my Last will & Testament
I do will & bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Ann [DUKE] the whole amount of
my estate both personal & real during her natural life & at her death that
two-thirds of it is to go to my Natural & Lawful heirs & the other
remaining third is to be subject to & at her own proper disposal by will on
demise & the purpose of carrying into effect this my last will & testament
& having full confidence in the faithfulness of my beloved wife Mary Ann
Ray I do hereby Constitute ordain & appoint her my sole executrix to
execute the same according to this my last will & do further request that
Jno Ray, esq. shall act as her friend & general counselor & advise in the
execution of this my last will & testament.
In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this
4th day of July 1842.
