Here's a suggestion as to the identity of William P. Wilson and Lucretia
Jane Rhea:
Alexander Rhea, son of William and Elizabeth (Clark) Rhea, moved to that
part of Henderson County, Kentucky, that became Hopkins County. While in
Virginia, he married Mary Crockett. At his death in 1818, he had two
heirs, William and Ellen, who was married to John Wilson (Hopkins Co.,
KY Deed Book 4, 252-253). In 1816, William's wife was Mary (Hopkins
Co., KY Deed Book 2, pages 6 and 15). In 1824, William Rhea purchased
200 acres in neighboring Caldwell County, located on a branch of the
Tradewater, the same river near which Alexander lived. In 1832 while
living in Cooper County, MO, he sold it (Caldwell Co., KY Deed Book G,
44-45). In that deed his wife's name was Jane. When I wrote my Bath
Co., VA, article in 1991, I thought that this was Alexander's son and
Jane was a second wife, but there is the possibility that he was a
grandson. Forty-two years separated Alexander's marriage and the land
purchase of 1824.
As to the marriage of William P. Wilson to Lucretia Jane Rhea in 1854:
The William and Jane Rhea family was living in Cooper County, MO.
Lucretia's middle name was Jane; and a Wilson was the husband of Ellen
Rhea, Alexander's daughter. Was she a daughter or granddaughter of
William and Jane? It looks like there may be a connection. Can anyone
out there shed light on it??
