Thanks for the info! I don't know why I couldn't see Ashe county in that...
That's interesting that his mother was a Gordon. Don't know if there's any
connection, but my ancestor William C. Ray, in Elbert county Georgia, sold
land to a Henry B. Gordon...
Eternal optimist that I am, I'm making the drive up to Ashe County, NC
this coming Friday. Have you ever been there?
