Subject: [Missouri-L] Princeton Missouri

For those who are interested there is a sign at Princeton Missouri that
tells about the town.
On April 6, 1846 The City of Princeton had its beginning when 22 lots
were sold. It was named for the Battle in which General Mercer, the
countys name sake was killed. Samuel Speer owned the site and had a
dwelling, A stable and a blacksmith shop. The town was laid off by
Spartan F. Rhea. Floyd Shannon and William Wesley had the first stores.
After 1850 the square became gradually dotted with business buildings.
All of wood. It was not until the coming of the railroad in 1871 that
brick buildings became common. Some of the early merchants were
Speer,Clements,Davis,Girdner,Lndsey,Casteel,Mullinax and McClelland.
