Can someone with more expertice than mine, who is working this line, please
respond to Tabbye. I seem to recall this line goes back one more documented
generation (Moses) but no connection to Scotland or Ireland has been
documented.

The following was supplied to me from the family bible of my grandmother.
"Father's (William Porter Rhea) people were Irish descent. Our Great Great
grandfather had seven sons. All were in the Revolutionary War except the
youngest one. He was too young. (He was our Great Grand father, his name
was Ezekiel). He had four sons, William, Sebird, Moses and Ezekiel. Moses
was our grandfather; his wife was Vianna Austin. She was a niece of Steven
Austin. They were tillers of the soil, had big plantations and negroes
galore. Grandfather died in or about 1850. Don't know where they were
born, but in Virginia or Tennessee. We are supposed to be the decendants
of the Rhea family that were driven from Scotland by the Catholics into
North Ireland whose name was Archibal Campbell who was a decendant of the
Duke of Argile. On account of the persecution, he changed his name to
Archibal Rhea, taking his mother's maiden name. She was Jane Rhea. That
family of decendants came to America. Rhea County, Tennessee was named for
our Great Grandfather, he was Governor of Tennessee for a number of year."
I cannot make any connection to a governor of TN., so I think this is in
error.
Ezekiel Rhea (possibly Ray) may have been born in Montgomery or Amherst
County, VA. He married Elizabeth Pryor and died apprx. 1811. Elizabeth
Pryor Rhea died in apprx. 1820 in White County, TN. Elizabeth Pryor Rhea's
second husband was Smith H. Hutchings.
Children born of Ezekiel & Elizabeth Pryor Rhea were: William b. 1792;
Sebird; Moses b. 1799 VA, died 1850 AR., m. Martha Vianna Austin (b.
10-28-1801 Ky. d. 11-19-1858 Marion County, AR). Moses & Martha V.
Austin had 12 children.; William P. Rhea b. 1792; Sebird; Ezekiell (had 6
children); Mahala (m. Levi Lollar June 1840; lived in Platte County, MO.);
Elizabeth b. 1802 (m. William J. Ray. After death of husband, changed her
name from Ray to Rhea & moved to be near brother Seb ird in Mercer Co.,
MO); ? daugher Rhea, m. William Edwards; ?daughter Rhea, m. Robert R.
Tucker
I descended down the following path: Ezekiel Rhea; Moses Rhea; William
Porter Rhea (b. 3-7-1830; d. 9-8-1892); Eda Rhea (my grandmother - b.
7-17-1872, d. 12-12-1971, m. William Thomas Lawson; Louise Lawson
Schiemenz.
I am stumped beyond Ezekiel Rhea (Ray?) and Elizabeth Pryor Rhea.
