1. Moses WRAY (Sr.), born abt. 1735 of Franklin Co, VA; died bef. 4 Oct 1802 in
, Franklin, VA. He married abt. 1754, Elizabeth Mary MORRIS, born abt. 1740;
died aft. 1802, daughter of Daniel MORRIS and Tabitha ??.
Notes for Moses WRAY (Sr.)
The origin of the Ray / Wray families in America is unknown. Some people say
they came to America from Scotland with the MacDonalds and the name was spelled
MacRay then. There is even a MacRay lake in Scotland. (Doc #RAY091) Others say
they are from an English family whose greatest claim to fame was its apparent
connection with Sir Christopher WRAY who, about 1585-1590 was Lord Chief Justice
of the Realm, and who presided at the trial of Phillip (Lord) Howard of the
ancestrial family of old Ken Howard up around Boone, NC. The Howards came to VA
and MD, and there were Rays in both provinces also, all more or less related.

Birth date is estimated. (21 yrs younger than oldest child)
The father of Moses Wray (Sr.) is NOT PROVED. He may be Benjamin Wray #9431, or
someone else.

Hey Y'all,
Who can tell me about the descendants of Moses Ray , of Amherst Co., VA?
It is my understanding he died ca 1766..
In his will, he named sons William, Moses(2), and Thomas.
Moses(2) and wife, Elizabeth were in Franklin Co., VA from 1786 to 1802.
Moses(2) will of 1802 names children: Moses(3), Elijah, John, William,
Andrew, Issac, James, Benjamin, Daniel, Ezekiel, George, Mary, Rebeccah,
Margaret,Elizabeth, Geny
I've been told that William, son of Moses(1), is the William Ray who moved to
North Georgia before 1800. (died in 1832)
Here's the big question :
Does anyone know if ANY of these children of Moses(1) or Moses(2) moved to
North Carolina ?
Thanks for your help, and I'd enjoy corresponding with anyone who knows about
these folks.
