Descendant of John Rea and of Sergt. Samuel Stannard.
Daughter of Edward Judson Stannard and Mary Jane Child, his wife.
Granddaughter of Heman Stannard and Minerva Smith, his wife; Oliver
Child and Edith Shaw, his wife.
Gr-granddaughter of Samuel Stannard and Jemima Wilcox, his wife;
Cadwallader Child and Elizabeth Rea, his wife.
Gr-gr-granddaughter of John Rea and Jane Forman, his wife.
John Rea (1755-81), a graduate of Oxford University, England, emigrated
to America and was a teacher until 1777 when he served as a private in
the 4th company, 11th regiment, Pennsylvania Continental line, Capt.
Lawrence [p.175] Keene, Colonel Hartley in command. In Sullivan's
expedition 1779 and was engaged in the battle of Brandywine. Was
honorably discharged 1780 after three years' service. He entered the
naval service as a privateerman and the vessel upon which he embarked
was never heard from. He was born in Cork, Ireland; died at sea.
Samuel Stannard enlisted 1777 in Capt. Nathaniel Tuttle's company at the
siege of Boston; was at Germantown, Valley Forge and Monmouth. He died
in Fairhaven, Vt., 1815, aged sixty-six.
