Thought you all might like to read this, so you know what is allowed and not
allowed when you are quoting material out of a book.

you can't
copyright a fact, so if you wanted to copy some birth and death dates out
of a book and post them to a list, it would be quite legal. Copying large
portions of text from the book to repost would almost certainly be
actionable, and is something that RootsWeb would probably try to prevent

and this is true, unless you have permission of the author , written or oral.
and you give that author credit.
