Subject: [RHEA-L] ABNER REA
Date: Thu, 07 May 1998 13:50:04 -0400
Not too long ago all I knew about my Ray/Rea ancestors was that they lived
in NE Arkansas. My grandfather, ROBERT M. RAY, died about 1928 in Caraway
Arkansas. Everyone thought his father's name was Simon.
Well I found SIMON REA, his parents and siblings, marriage date and spouse's
name (ALMIRA EUBANKS) and then there was his mother and father ROBERT and
CHARITY REA. Charity was a Rea before her marriage.
Her parents were ABNER REA and ALSEY HOPPER.Apparently they came
from SUMNER COUNTY TENNESSEE alomg with Abner's brother WILSON REA.Wilson
was a member of Captain Stephenson's Company during the Black Hawk War in
1832. So they were in the area fairly early.
The ABRAHAM REA family was also here pretty early as Abraham was
also in the Black Hawk War.Not sure of the connection between these two
family's yet. Both left large numbers of kin buried in Franklin County
Illinois over the years,Abraham's in the Rea Cemetery, Abner's in Mt
Pleasant Church Cemetery. (The land was for this church was donated by
Abner's son also named Abner.)
Have been told that these familys originally came from Henry County
Va.Supposedly wandered over Kentucky and Tennessee before settling In
Illinois. One ancestor, WILLIAM C. REA has been found in Cook Cemetery in
Milton Tennesse.
So, if you have Rea ancestors in Virginia, Kentucky,Tennessee, or
Illinois keep me in mind, we may be related.
