<< There is a book titled "A Comprehensive Name index for the American Slave"
Written by Howard E. Potts, published by Greenwood Press, Westport Conn.
The book costs $95 dollars plus shipping. You should be able to get it
through inter-library loan.

The book contains info taken from the Federal Writers Project of the WPA
between 1936 and 1938. During that time, interviews were conducted with
about 2,000 former slaves. A microfilm of the transcripts of those
interviews is said to be at the Dallas Public Library. There is no index!!!

The book "A Comprehensive Name index for the American Slave", contains the
following indexes:

1. COUNTY & STATE------ An alphabetical listing of counties within, an
alphabetical listing of states, narrators name, year narrator was born, age
at time of interview, the name of their former master, name of the
interviewer, volumn #, page #, and number of pages.

2. NARRATOR--------------- Alphabetical listing of Narrators (former
slaves), County,
State, year born, age, Masters name, Interviewers name, Vol #, page,
Number of pages.

3. MASTER------------------- Alphebetical listing of former masters
names,
County, state, narrator, year born, age, Interviewer, vol #, page, #
of pages.

4. INTERVIEWER --------- Alphebetical listing of interviewers names,

I found only five listings for Halifax Co. Va. which I am searching, none of
which I could use.
