I am continuing to post updates, if anyone doesn't want to read them delete. I
have one happy story to relate today. Had a gentleman from the Rhea list ask
me to give his daughter a call in Bowling Green, Ky, as he could not get
through. I called she's fine, and was getting ready to call him and let him
know. Pat
STORM ASSESSMENT EARLY THIS MORNING
Date:98-04-17 07:30:02 EDT
From: (Sandi Gorin)
I'll make probably 3 posts today on the storm. It's 6:15 and even after a
full night's sleep, feel like I've not slept at all. Here's all they're
saying this morning - but of course, when the disaster teams get out, more
will be found.
3 people are dead and the names released: 47 year old Elmer Lee Runyon of
the Hollow Road; 67 yr old William Powell Meeks of the Hollow Road and 78
year old Ivas Welby Devore who lived at the Barren-Metcalfe Co line.
9 have been treated at the hospital here, 7 released; one still in the
hospital, one transferred to the Bowling Green Medical Center. No names.
30 guardsman worked thru the night and will be working until the situation
is under control; Red Cross units coming in today.
The hardest hit in Barren Co was at the Riddle Trailer Park and on the
Hollow Road (damage began they think about 1 mile out on Hollow Road from
Highway 90. Eastern Elementery did lose their roof and all portable
classrooms are gone. Estimated 4-5 million dollars in damages as of midnight.
Funnels were spotted at Red Cross, the Narrows at Barren River Lake and
along Beaver Creek.
In Metcalfe Co the hardest hit area runs a line from Wisdom, Randolph and
Cave Ridge - no other details.
The weather service never posted a tornado warning for them, but the mayor
saw it coming and posted the alert herself thru the local radio station.
800 customers without power - mainly along the Boyds Creek area, Wisdom,
Cave Ridge and Hidden Forrest area.
R R Donnelly's in Glasgow suffered damages, thought to be a possible
chemical leak - no problems. The East Book Trailer Park suffered water
damage.
That's all I know right now - our local station, WCLU, has been
broadcasting through the entire storm - and a thanks to Jim, Nellie, Gayle,
Stan, my dau Shelley, and all who helped until 10:30 last night when things
calmed down enough to go home. They kept the entire area posted throughout
the storm except when losing power for about an hour. Looking out my
kitchen window, it looks like our yard had been under water for years -
debris and mud everywhere. We're supposed to have sunshine today and then a
70% chance of heavy rains tomorrow.
Thanks for all the concern. I'll post again around noon or so on the storm,
and make a couple of posts today.
