Subject: [RHEA-L] Re: Please help me find Nellie's RHEA and/or PARSONS family
Date: Sun, 29 Mar 1998 22:18:18 -0800

Greetings. This is my 1st time out. Hope you will correct me if I do
something dumb. My current goal is to find the family of maternal gg
grandmother, Eleanor or Nellie RHEA and/or PARSONS, b. Nov 1827 in NC.
1850 Ashe Co. US Census lists her as PARSONS, head of household, living
with her infant son, James Parsons. Nearby lived 27-year-old John BLACK.
1860 census lists her as w/o John Black, living in Beaver Creek, Old Field
Dist, Ashe Co., NC with children Caroline b. 1851, Jacob b. 1853, Nancy b.
1854, Jesse Franklin b. 1858 and Robert N. b. 1860. Her son, James, is now
listed as James Black. It would appear, then, that Eleanor was either an
unwed mother with birth name of Parsons, or a young widow. Caroline's
death certificate lists her mother's maiden name as RHEA (unfortunately, no
other clues). However, in probate records for Caroline's brother, Jesse
Franklin Black, Eleanor's maiden name is listed as Nellie Parsons. By 1880
John and Eleanor Black were living on a farm in Carter Co., TN. Research
in Ashe Co. has been challenging and I have not been able to connect
Eleanor to her parents. Would you all keep me in mind? I'd be thrilled to
be able to assign Eleanor to a family.
