<< Attention Virginia Rooters who are also interested in your Irish
and Scots-Irish roots! (and who live in striking distance of
Staunton, Virginia --Augusta County--at the intersection of I-81
and I-64 in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley):
There will be a workshop on Friday evening, March 20 and all day
Saturday, March 21 at the Museum of American Frontier Culture.
The featured speakers are Dr. Brian Trainor, former director of
the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, who is currently
chair of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and Director of
Research for the Ulster Historical Foundation, and Mr. Shane
McAteer, the managing director of the Ulster Historical
Foundation, and their genealogical database specialist.
They will give talks and demonstrations along with a museum
research staff member, on aspects of doing research on your
ancestors in Irish sources.
Dr. Trainor will be available for individual consultations with
workshop registrants. Mr. McAteer will be available for
individual database searches for registrants, for an additional
fee. The database compiled by the Ulster Historical Foundation
(part of the cross-border Irish Genealogical Project) contains
some 2 million documents. While these are primarily in the nine
counties of Ulster (Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Donegal, Down,
Fermanagh, Londonderry, Monaghan and Tyrone), the database also
includes considerable material from all of Ireland.
If you are interested in registering for this workshop, there are
still a few places available. Friday evening fee, including
refreshments, is $20. The Saturday fee, including a full Irish
luncheon buffet, is $40.
Interested persons please contact me by phone, fax, or e-mail, no
later than noon, on Monday, March 16.
