Remainder of Fergus Ray’s Estate which could not be had when the rest was
appraised. one iron pott, one old plow, one augor, October ye 27 yr
1764. Philip Davis, Henry Franklin, James Jones. At a Court continued
and held for Amherst County at the Court House the sixth Day of November
1764. This memorandum of part of the estate of Fergus Ray’s deceased was
returned and to be added to the Inventory & ordered to be recorded.

22 May 1766. Amherst County, VA., Will Book #1, pgs 123-125. Will of
Moses Ray. Written on 22 May 1766. Heirs: son, William Ray - land on
Gilberts Creek joining Mayo's line (345 acres); son, Moses Ray - tract of
land on which I now live (400 acres) including the Island joining the
tract; son, Thomas Ray - (400 acres) land in Buckingham County on Rock
Island Creek. Plantations with the Island and my still may be rented and
as much as of the money as is necessary maybe laid out in teaching my
children. All other my household goods and stock of all kind be sold and
my debts paid and what remains after my debts paid to be equally divided
among all my children both sons and daughters. Son, Moses, one negro boy
named Joshua who is to be hired out until Moses comes of age for Moses'
maintenance. Executors: Col William Cavel, Col James Nevell and Col.
Joseph Cavel. Signed: Moses (MR) Ray. Wits., Augustine Sheppard and
(illegible) Sarh Shepperd. Presented on 5 Sep 1768 by William Cabell,

Ray. Dated: 6 October 1766. To my two beloved sons Andrew Ray and John
Ray my land whereon I now live to be equally divided between them. Unto
my dearly beloved wife one dark bay horse called Prince “and went for her
riding horse”, her side saddle, her bed and furniture likewise her living
on the plantation during her widowhood for the use of her and the
children. I give to John Michal Miller the bed whereon he lies and
furniture belonging to the same. To my wife two cows and calves, said
cows to be of her own choosing out of the stock with their increase,
likewise my stock of hogs and sheep and the household stuff for her and
the children’s use during her widowhood, with all her wearing apparel.
At her marriage, what is left to be returned for use of the children.
Unto my two daughters Mary Ray and Prissilla, all the rest of my estate
that is to say all the rest of the horses, mares, colts, and the “rest of
my Cattle, Waggon and Still” to be turned into money for the girls with
all my bills bonds and book debts to be equally divided between the
children and paying what debts is due by me. My desire is that the boys
land shall be kept clear of quitrents for which I leave a bond of Wm.
Thomas for that same use vizt. 20 pounds. The overplus of what is left
besides clearing the quitrents of the land to go to the support of my
wife and children. Crop of grain to my wife and children for the
maintenance of them. Executors: William Thomas, Jonathan Grimes.
Witnesses: John Boyston, John Michal Miller, Peter Blankenship. Proven:
26 May 1767 by oaths of John Boston and Peter Blankenship. Executors
refused to take upon the Execution of said Will. Martha Ray is granted
certificate for obtaining Letters of Administration with the Will
annexed. Security: Henry Taylor and James Standefer.

eight pounds in Samuel Linses hands “on his make the said Linsy a Right
to a Certain Tract of land lying in Agusta County on James River”. To my
loving wife one bay horse. “I give my Son Joseph, Daniel & Joshua,
Elizabeth, Mary & Jane & Sarah, one Shilling Starling each.” Witnesses:
Jacob Anderson, Josias Coffer, Mary Anderson. Proven: 24 November 1767
