I don't see a lot of WRAY's with my spelling on this list. The emmigrant
in my line is Robert WRAY born about 1765 in County Donegal, Ireland, son
of John and Elizabeth WRAY. He was a farmer who came to Huntingdon county,
Pennsylvania before 1792. There is a family group sheet in Huntingdon
county that states that Robert was born in Arrick, Shandrun, Ireland. He
died 1 March 1841.
He is buried in the Campbell cemetery which is primarily unmarked. It is
located on Lick's Ridge, Henderson township in Huntingdon county.
He married Jean or Jane DOUGLAS, daughter of Andrew DOUGLAS and Sarah
HUSTON in the US. The next generation of WRAYs was all born in
Pennsylvania, some of them stayed in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania and a
number of them moved on to Mercer and Warren county, Illinois.
They had a connection, that I have not hooked in yet who was born in
Ireland and lived with a family member in Illinois. Lindsay WRAY lived
with J.D. PORTER for over 26 years was granted a government pension, a back
pension of $6000 and $72 a month. He was blind and dependent on friends.
He enlisted for the Mexican War in a Philadelphia company and went through
all the hardships of the campaigns under General Scott. His sister Mrs.
Maggie WHITE of Washington D.C. secured the pension for him. She was then
on a visit to J.D. PORTER. Lindsay H. WRAY is buried in the Norwood
Cemetery, he was born 19 August 1819 and died 14 September 1893. His
tombstone states Mexican War. The Monmouth Review of 18 September 1885 has
an account of the reunion of the Veterans of the Mexican War. It was their
thirteenth and was held in Monmouth in the Commercial House parlors on 14
September 1885. Lindsay WRAY was present, he had fought with the First
Pennsylvania and now lived in Spring Grove.
I would be interested in any one else connected to this line.
