Over time I have collected some odds and ends of Rhea/Ray/Wray data, most
of it not necessarily connected to each other. I thought I would post
some of it as I had time and perhaps it would help someone.

4 Jun 1636. Thomas Wray. Charles River Co., VA. 50 acres on Back Creek
of the New Poquoson River. Patents 1, pg 341. Early Virginia
Immigrants, 1623-1666, by George Cabell Greer, reprint published, 1982,
by Genealogy Pub. Co., Baltimore, MD, the following Wrays: Wray, Thomas,
1636, by Thomas Wray of Charles River Co., VA.

13 Oct 1642. Thomas Ray. Land on Severne River. 300 acres beginning at
a small branch or creeke issuing out of the north branch of Severne and
is the bounds of this land and the land of Roger Simmons. Patents 1, pg
832. (Virginia Patents)

25 Aug 1654. York County, Virginia, Deeds, Orders, Wills, Etc., (1633-57
& 1691-1694), page 293. Will of Thomas Ray. Probated 24 Jan 1655. To
son, Thomas Ray - all my land at New Poquoson and MopJack Bay and if he
has no heirs then to son, Christmas Ray, and if he has no heirs then to
Mary Ray and her heirs. To son, Thomas, one Indian girl and 2 cows and
calves, one Turkey rugg, one pott and one postle. Also Thomas Ray shall
have all the increase of these cows when he comes of age. All the rest
of the estate to wife and son, Christmas Ray, and daughter, Mary Ray to
be equally divided after debts are paid. A hogshead of tobacco for a
sermon to be preached in the New Poquoson Church some Sabbath Day and
also to godson, Thomas Coleman, one cow calf. To daughter, Ann
Skipworth, one cow calf to be delivered within two months after my
decease. Overseers of will to be Thomas Kirby, Peter Starkey and Henry

24 Jun 1656. 18 Dec 1648. Virginia Colonial Abstracts, Volume 26, York
County, 1648-1657, by Beverly Fleet, pg 62. A Court for York 24 Jun
1656. No. 1, p. 293. Will of Thomas Ray. Dated 25 Aug 1654. Prob. 24
June 1655. To son Thos Ray (under age) all land at the New Poquoson, and
all at Mop-Jack bay (Mobjack Bay). He failing in heirs the land to go to
Chrismas Ray, and he failing in heirs to Mary Ray. Also personal
property to son Thos. Ray. Residue of estate to wife, son Chrismas Ray
and dau Mary Ray - to be equally divided. A hhd of tobo “for a Sermon to
be preached in the New Poquoson Church some Sabboth day”. To God-son
Tho. Coleman a cow calf. “to my Daughter Ann Skipworth” a cow calf to be
delivered within 2 months after death. Overseers: Mr. Thomas Kirby,

Nottingham, 1993, pg 6. Certificate is this day granted to Henry Smith
for six hundred acres of land due per right underwritten viz: Henry

20 Oct 1689. William Ray. Surry Co., VA. 314 acres beginning at a
white oak in Richard Washington’s line. Patents 8, pg 5.

23 Oct 1690. William Wray. Surry Co., VA. 200 acres near the head of
Greyes Creek. Patents 8, pg 88.

3 Jul 1696. Deeds, Orders, Wills Book #10 (1694-1697), pg 44. Will of
Thomas Rea of Charles Parish of York County. Probated 24 Nov 1696.
Executor, Robert Pesrod(?). Whole estate to son-in-law, Robert Pesrod,
and his heirs, which is now in Virginia both of hoggs and cattle and
horses and debts that is due to me in Virginia and elsewhere or lands if
any happen to fall to me by right of heirship in Ireland or elsewhere.

19 Jun 1699. York County, VA., Deeds, Orders, Wills, Etc., 1698-1702,
Reel 5, pgs 199-200. Will of George Raye. Probated 24 Jul 1699. Heirs:
Children: Samuel and Mary Raye whole Virginia estate my executors having
first turned my estate into money; Executors: Major Thomas Ballard,
Major Lewis Burwell. In addition, if above children desire to go to
England my executors are to send them England to their mother in England.
If my children do go to England then my estate should be sent to my
brother, Isaac Raye in England. Signed George Raye. Wits: Mungo(?)

to William Wise - 2710. Thomas Ray of Charles Parish in York County and

Wise of Charles Parish & York County 91 acres in the Parish of Charles &
County of York, bounded according to a survey made September 9th 1685 for
Chrismas Ray, father to the sd Thomas & Chrismas Ray. 14th July 1720.

faded.)) Only words that can be read:---my Brother in Law---Pittman---
(and right before that looks like the word “Father”)--- these were to be
Executors.
