<< Hello Pat,
I got to visit the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee this past November. We
visited Cades Cove which is about 30 minutes from Gatlinburg. They have
several Old Churches in Cades Cove, with attached Cemetery's. I couldn't
resist looking through them knowing that the Rhea's were from just a couple
of counties over. Unfortunately I didn't find any Rhea's, however I did find
Tipton's. Tiptons's are connected to my Rhea line through Mary Edington. I
think that she may have been a descendant of Tiptons. We went horseback
riding and the guide told us that the Cades Cove area has been researched a
lot, he also said there is a book that a lady has put together about the
families from the area. He said that the book was in one of the churches.
I never saw the book, the churches didn't seem to have much in them, except
for furniture. The gift shop did however have a book that I got to look
through briefly. The name is The Families of Cades Cove, 1821-1936, by A.
Randolph Shields. There was another book that I think was referenced by the
Cades Cove book titled, We Tiptons & Our Kin, by Rev. Ervin Charles Tipton,
1925. I didn't know if this was worth posting to the Rhea list, since it
dosen't have much to do with Rhea's but their related families.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and New Year.
Best Wishes,
Vicky

p.s. I could have spent hours looking at the Cades Cove book, and writing
down the names from the cemeterys. We were with a group of 8 people going in
different directions. It was all I could do to get them to stop. I wish I
could have gotten more information :( I'll go by my self next time :)
