1. Robert RHEA.

Robert was a member of the Greeneville miliatia, a shop
owner, and is listed on the tax roles for Greeneville for several
years. Assuming that he was married between age 18 and 28, he would
have been born between 1792 and 1802.

He was married to Elizabeth BALCH (daughter of Elijah
Whitfield BALCH and Mary (Mollie) GREEN) on 29 Jul 1820 in Greene Co.,
TN. \Marriage record from LDS FHC report24 May 1983 (OG), Source
8233604, Sheet 67.1

Elizabeth BALCH was born on 18 Dec 1807 in Greeneville, TN. Can't say
that we are absolutely sure this is correct birth date for Elizabeth.
She would have been only 12 years of age at marriage.

Robert Rhea is noted in Richard Doughty's book "One Hundred
Year Portrait of Greeneville, Tennessee (1775 - 1875.

Note: Mildred (Balch) Clark shows Thomas Jackson married to
Elizabeth, daughter of Elijah Whitfield and Mary (Mollie) Green. She
references a Greene Co., TN. Chancery Court Record in which a certain
Mary Balch (Pauper) has filed a civil action, sometime between 1825 and
1831, against Thomas Jackson, and in which the court has appointed
Thomas D. Arnold as her attorney. This record is annotated that Thomas
Jackson is married to Elizabeth, and is Mary's son-in-law. We do not
know if the actual court record states this, or if the notation was made
by Mrs. Mildred (Balch) Clark.
IF THIS INFORMATION IS CORRECT, THEN WE HAVE THOMAS JACKSON MARRIED
TO THE WRONG ELIZABETH BALCH. WE SHOULD HAVE HIM MARRIED TO ELIZABETH,
DAUGHTER OF ELIJAH WHITFIELD AND MARY (MOLLIE) GREEN.

Our marriage information was submitted by Mrs. Joan D'Andrea,
a descendant of this line (noted under Robert Rhea), and also on the
fact that their son was named Elijah Whitfield Rhea. It seems
reasonable then that this son was named for his grandfather, Elijah
Whitfield Balch, his mother's father. We believe, therefore, that our
record for this marriage, i.e., Robert Rhea to Elizabeth Balch, daughter
of Elijah Whitfield Balch and Molly Green stands correct.

Robert RHEA and Elizabeth BALCH had the following children:

+2 i. Elijah Whitfield RHEA.

SECOND GENERATION

2. Elijah Whitfield RHEA.

He was married to Elizabeth C. MILLIORN. Elijah Whitfield
RHEA and Elizabeth C. MILLIORN had the following children:

+3 i. John B. RHEA.

THIRD GENERATION

3. John B. RHEA.

He was married to Ruby Laura BAKER. John B. RHEA and Ruby
Laura BAKER had the following children:

+4 i. Olive Elmina RHEA.

FOURTH GENERATION

4. Olive Elmina RHEA.

She was married to (Unk) WALTERS.

Just wondered if you had anything on the Rheas of east Tennessee.

I hope to have a page on the web soon. Plan to post my family
history file (less notes & sources, picutes, etc.), a copy of the
newsletter.... and other stuff.

Gene

>> Here's another Rhea name for you all to look at. I don't have anything
on this family.Maybe one of you do. If so, let us all know, as well as Gene.
He writes a Balch newsletter.

Thanks
