As I explained I have further documents which I hope to add real soon.
I have a copy of a document from a 1979 Rhea reunion.
Henry Tolbert Rhea sells deed of property to his son Leon:
Legal Description:
"Louisville,Blount County, Tenness Property located on the east side of
Main Street, running in the direction of the Tennesse River. Bound on
the north by lot once owned by J.H. Henry. Bound on the east by farm of
Dick Cox and on the south by a lot owned and occupied by Elizabeth
French. The said property was previously owned by J.H. Henry and now
owned by James Tallent. It was deeded by James Tallent to me the said
H.T. Rhea."
Grandchildren of Henry Talbot said that their grandpa would tell them
stories of the "one night" as a child when masked men came to his house
and carried his father away - never to be seen again.
Grandpa (Henry Tolbert Rhea) told the kids that there was dishonor in
his family and that is why he had to move to Texas. It is recorded that
his mother Elizabeth married to the Henry family in Louisville and then
moved to Texas with his three "new" half brothers".... was the man who
dissapeared a son of JH Henry who impregnated Elizabeth or surnamed
French?
It was felt that the Elizabeth in reference was Elizabeth Rhea, daughter
of James Rhea and Elizabeth Snapp. Early references indicated that an
Elizabeth Rhea was born to this family but was "omitted" or disowned..
as a result of becoming pregnant with child as recorded in the Knox
County court record ?????? she would have been 16 yrs
N-186/17-1837
Rhea, Elizabeth and Tolbert $25.00 dollars pd to Blount, county given to
secure the county from any cost because of a child born to her. Sd
child is a white male; witnessed by William Collum, Matthew
Whittenbarger, J.P. Ack. 9/4/1837
The above is not documented yet!(other then the county record and deed)
.. but is part of the puzzle. The property deed and inferences put
Elizabeth and Henry Tolbert in Louisville in that era... I need to find
if Tolbert was a surname of a family that resided there (or her husbands
first name) and if his mother Elizabeth Rhea named her son after her
mysterious husband and/or if perhaps Tolbert added the Henry in front of
his name to honor his becoming a part of the Henry family of Louisville.
This why geneology is so much fun - finding the puzzle pieces. Are
their any Rheas in TN that are allied to Henry or Sneed that you know
of?
Thanks
Mike
