Thought these records might interest you. These are courtesy of Robert Perry
Rhea, and are contained in his booklet THE RHEA, REAH, REAGH, REAUGH,
REAOH, REACH FAMILY References and Notes
Some explanation is needed as to the ref. no. and symbols * denotes that
Robert P. Rhea has a copy of the original. 198 is the reference no. that
pertains to the Article he wrote for the Bath Co. Bicentennial Book, Bath Co.
Historical Society, Warm Springs, Va. The book is available for $50.00, and
contains the 5 page article he wrote, plus there are other Rhea's mentioned.
If you would want a copy of the article, you may contact the Bath Co.
Historical Society, and they will tell you how much it will cost for copying
and postage. I think they are online.
198- Ramsey, J. G. M., History of Lebanon Presbyterian Church "In The Fork",
(Knoxville, TN: J. G. M. Ramsey, 1875), 14.*
"Archibald Rhea, Sr. was one of the Elders of Lebanon. His residence was
immediately at Gilliams, across the French Broad. The family was from
Virginia...Mr. Rhea is represented to have been a very worthy and pious man,
but as he died in 1793, little is recollected of him...His son his successor,
some several years after. In the eldership was Archibald Rhea, Jr. He was an
excellent man and a devout Christian. he acted as presentor for the
congregation; he also taught music as a science...an excellent singer...and
successful teacher. His classes generally met him in the church...Mr. Rhea
was married to one of the daughters of Governor Sevier, and one of the sons
of the Governor was married to a sister of Mr. Rhea...The Governor's ladies
always occupied Mr. Rhea's pew in the church, while the Governor always sat
at the head of Dr. Cozby's more comfortable pew at the opposite side of the
house...About 1815 Mr. Rhea moved to Knoxville...he then moved to Alabama...I
think I have heard that a son of his, James White Rhea, became a ruling elder
of some church in North Alabama."
Archibald Rhea Sr. is also mentioned in J. g. M. Ramsey's The Annals of
Tennessee To The End Of The Eighteenth Century, (Charleston: John Russell,
1853), 372.* His wife, Margaret, and son Archibald Jr., administered his
estate. For probate records, see Knox Co. TN Administrative Settlements. Vol.
1, 14, 16, 23, 32, 135, 143, 228, 230.*
