Here is the information I have on my Rhea ancestors, researched by a
1st cousin once removed. My g.g.grandfather was
George Elliott Rhea, b. 1869, Grundy Co., TN; m. Allie Garrett, August
11, 1889 in Bonham, TX. One son, Marvin Clyde RHEA. Allie died
c. 1891 in Bonham. George then married Ella Sanders; two sons, Samuel
and Benjamin or Byran, who died in childhood. George divorced Ella
and married twice more to women named Pickett and Daniels. Date of
George's death and place of burial is unknown. George's father was
James Jefferson Rhea, b. 1837 in Tracy, Grundy Co., TN; m. Evaline
_______ in 1860. Children were Emma, Betty, Joseph, John, Will, and
George Elliott. It is believed that the family moved to Louisiana,
and that James was buried in Milburn, OK. James's father was
Joseph Rhea, b. 1807 in Tennessee. He appears in the 1850 Grundy Co.,
TN, Census, age 43, occupation farmer, no wife, living with children
James, William, Byran, Frank, and Martha. Not listed in 1860 Grundy
Co. census.
That's as far back as I have information. I have been unable to match
this Joseph Rhea with these children with anyone appearing in the Rhea
article in "Notable Southern Families." There is a strong family
tradition that we are descended from the Rev. Joseph Reagh (Rhea) from
Fahan. If this Grundy Co. Joseph Rhea is connected to the
Rev. Joseph, he is either his grandson (through one of the Rev's sons
born in America) or great-grandson.
Anyone else know of Rheas in Grundy County?
