My descent is from Matthew Rhea II, who married Elizabeth McLean, his
second wife and had:

Rev. Joseph Rhea, who married Elizabeth McIlwaine, d/o John McIlwaine
and Margaret Scott Anderson McIlwaine, and the following THREE of their
children;
I.
Matthew Rhea IV, who married Jane Preston and their child
Matthew Rhea V, who married Mary Looney, d/o Abraham Looney and
Elizabeth Gammon and the granddaughter of Col. David Looney/Mary
McClelland and the Honorable Richard Gammon/ Sarah Gamble, all of
Tennessee.
And their son, Walter Preston Rhea I, who married Jennie Edmondson,
d/o William Campbell Edmondson and his wife, Susan Elizabeth RHEA (see
William Rhea family) and their son, Walter Preston Rhea II, who married
Mazie Sale, d/o George Brock Sale and Lola Wooten; and their son,
Walter Preston Rhea III, who married Berte Rebecca Butler and had 3
children, Anne Stewart Rhea (Bruce); Walter Preston Rhea IV; and William
Brock Rhea. This is the descent from Matthew and Jane Preston Rhea.
II.
The lineage from Margaret Rhea , daughter of Rev. Joseph Rhea and his
wife, Elizabeth McIlwaine Rhea, is; Margaret Rhea married Robert
Preston, s/o John Preston and Eleanor Fairman. They had children, one
of whom was the eldest son, Colonel John Preston II, who married
Margaret Brown Preson, the posthumous child of Colonel William Preston
and his wife, Susanna Smith Preston of Augusta, Fincastle and Montgomery
Counties, Va.
Colonel John Preston II, and his wife, Margaret Preston Preston had
children , one of whom was the eldest daughter, Susan Rhea Preston, born
1803, died 1828, and who married Joseph Campbell RHEA,(see the family of
William RHEA for his ancestry).
III.
William RHEA, the fourth child of Rev. Joseph RHEA and Elizabeth
McIlwaine, was born ca. 1760 in Fahan, Northern Ireland. He married
Elizabeth Breden, d/o John Breden and Elizebeth Dysart. Elizebeth Dysart
was a close relative of William's mother, Elizabeth McIlwaine. William
and Elizabeth Breden RHEA had children , among whom was Joseph Campbell
RHEA, born 1800, who married a close cousin, Susan Rhea Preston, and who
had children, among whom was Susan Elizabeth RHEA, who married William
Campbell Edmondson.
William Campbell Edmondson and Susan Elizabeth RHEA Edmondson had five
children among whom was Jane (Jennie)Bowen Edmondson who married in
1870, to her third cousin, once removed, Walter Preston RHEA I, s/o
Matthew RHEA V, and his wife, Mary Looney Rhea.
They had Walter Preston RHEA II, who married in 1903, Mazie Sale, d/o
G.B.Sale and his wife, Lola May Wooten. They had two sons, among whom
was Walter Preston RHEA III, who married Berte Rebecca Butler, in 1930
and who had Anne Stewart RHEA, who married Thomas Richard Bruce and had
children; Walter Preston RHEA IV, who married and had one child; and
William Brock RHEA, who married and had one child.
This is an encapsulated lineage from three of the children of Rev.
Joseph Rhea and his wife, Elizabeth McIlwaine. These three children
were all born in Fahan, Ireland , and came to America aboard the ship,
GEORGE, with their parents, arriving at Reedy Island , in the mouth of
the Delaware River, on December 1, 1769.
Rev. Joseph Rhea's diary had this entry for that date:"A breeze arising
after the calm. We weigh anchor. The wind NW. What a fine prospect.
Tall trees on every shore. fine white houses, a beautiful land. - -
-This night we lye at anchor above Reed Island. All calm."

Joseph Campbell Rhea, born 1800, was the son of William RHEA,and a
grandson of Rev. Joseph Rhea. He married first, Susan Rhea Preston, the
d/o Col. John Preston II. They had children; among whom was Susan
Elizabeth RHEA, born 1828, who married William Campbell Edmondson, s/o
Andrew Edmondson and his wife, Jane Campbell Bowen.
William Campbell Edmondson and his wife, Susan Elizabeth RHEA had five
children, among whom was Jennie Bowen Edmondson. Jennie Bowen Edmondson
married Walter Preston RHEA I, s/o Matthew V, and Mary Looney RHEA. (see
above)
Thank you,
Anne Rhea Bruce
