Thanks Ed, for your thoughts on the possible connection of John Rhea Sr.
and Febra to the Matthew tree.
Someone asked me a few weeks ago if I thought John Sr's group connected
to the main branch of the Rheas and my reply was, "NO, because if we did,
I think Ed Foley would know about it by now,"
In the event and for those interested, I have a few minor corrections and
observations re. your message.
I did first think that Sterling Rhea (March 1, 1827) died in Johnson Cty.
Arkansas because the photo of him was obtained from an aunts' possessions
who never left Arkansas. I now think Sterling died in the Sneedville,
Tenn area and that the photo must have been brought or mailed to my
Aunt.
The photo is of Sterling and Mary Jarvis (2nd wife) and a young child,
presumably a child of Marys and not Sterling. She(Mary) appears to be at
least 40 years younger than Sterllng, which would indicate a birth date
of apx, 1860-75. Sterling looks to be 80-90 in the photo and Mary looks
to be maybe 40 or even younger. ( I understand that in those days before
pensions and social security it was not uncommon for a young widow to
marry just for means of support and my guess is that that is the case.)
If any one is interested in the photo of Sterling, I can post it in .JPG
file format to my web page and it can be downloaded from there.
Just e-mail me at or and I will give you
the route to get it for downloading.
