For anyone who to has the opportunity to stop in Sullivan Co. TN, please drop
me a note. I'll pass along names and places to visit with Rhea connections.
This is a county very proud of its pioneer heritage and has a very active
genealogy society. There are two excellent family history libraries - one in
Blountville and one in Kingsport. A number of Rhea cousins still live in
the county. The Rev. Joseph Rhea land is still in the family, owned
primarily his descendants the Earharts. The home built by his son still
stands and a schoolhouse built for the education of the Rhea cousins it
standing proudly on the farm. Bristol Speedway was built on part of the
original farm and on race days fans park on the old homestead. Many Rheas
are buried in Blountville Cemetery and nearby Weaver Church. Blountville is
a charming little town and a number of pre Civil War homes and buildings
survive, many with ties to the early Rheas.
