I hate to tell you this but the book by Bob Walters, is incorrect when it
comes to Ann Rhea.
Ann was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Clark RHEA Bath Co. VA. Will
Book 1, 214-215. Will of William Reah/Reagh/Reach/Rhea, a brother to
Archibald and Robert.
Dated January 3, 1801, proved June, 1802. He named his wife, Elizabeth, Huey
and John Reach, sons of his son, Archibald, deceased, the children of son
James Reach, deceased, sons, John, Robert, Alexander, and William Reach, and
daughter; Ann Lockridge. son, Robert, Executor Signed William Rhea.
will of Elizabeth Clark Rhea Bath Co., VA Will Book 1, 306-308. Will of
Elizabeth (Clark) William's wife. Dated November 20, 1804, proved December ,
1804, named sons, William, Robert, Alexander, and John Rhea, daughter, Ann
Laughrage, grandchildren, Robert, son of William and the children of
Archibald and James Rhea "who is dead". James Kelso and John Rhea, executors.
Signed "Elizabeth (her mark) Rhea."
Augusta Co., VA Chancery Records, File 45, John Rhea vs. Wm. Rhea Heirs,
Filed July 19, 1804, For an abstract, see Chalkley, 2:85 John Rhea sued the
heirs of William his father for land his father had promised him.
In this it lists the children and Ann Lockridge.
Augusta Co., VA Will Book 9, 8-9. Will of John Lockridge, husband of Ann
Rhea, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Clark) Rhea of Augusta and Bath
Counties, Virginia. Dated Dec. 4, 1798, proved June 24, 1799. Signed
"Lockridge" but spelled "Louchridge" throughout the text. He named his wife
Anna; sons Andrew, William, John, and James; daughters, Betsy, Sarah, and
Anna. After Anna's death, his land to be divided among his eldest sons,
Andrew, william, and John. The tract went to Andrew was purchased in 1821 by
Robert Rhea, then living in Hopkins, County, Kentucky and presumed to be the
son of Ann's brother Robert. After Robert marriage, he sold the land to John
Lockridge in 1830 (Ref. 171). John Lockridge Sr. was the son of Andrew
Lockridge who died in 1791(Augusta Co. VA Will Book 7, 353.
Ref. 171. Augusta Co., VA Deed Book 46, 201-202. Dated 1821 (no month or
day), recorded January, 1822. The parcel was "one equal third part" of 340
acres on Smiths Creek in Augusta County, devised to Ann Lockridge, widow of
John Lockridge, and to her son, Andrew Lockridge, upon her death or
remarriage. Andrew and Sally Lockridge were living in Hopkins County when the
deed was written.
Now William Rhea, Jr. son of William and Elizabeth Clark Rhea's second wife
was Elizabeth Brownlee, daughter of William and Sarah Mitchell Brownlee, and
widow of Thomas Nelson Jr. her mother was the sister of David Mitchell, one
of the earliest settlers on Catawba Creek, now in Botetourt County. William
and Elizabeth had 8 children. John, Alexander, Ann/Anny, William, Thomas,
Elizabeth, Clarissa, and Narcissa. Their names are documented in a Green
County, Kentucky Circuit Court lawsuit in 1819, Wm. Rhea vs. Brownlee Heirs.
They are also named with half siblings Robert, Agnes/Nancy, and Archibald in
an 1827 lawsuit, William Wells et al. vs. Leonard Mudd et al.
Hope this helps.
