Chalkley, Lyman, Records of Augusta County, Virginia, 1745-1800, Genealogical
Publishing Co., Baltimore, 1966. Vol. III, p. 286. August Co. Deed Book 2, p.
751: "17th May, 1750. Benj. Borden to William RHEGH, 230 acres on Hays Creek.
Delivered: R. Breckinridge, 23d August, 1751." The author has no hard
evidence that htis purchase was actually in territory that later became Bath
County. However, William HEA late purchased land on Mill Creek which was in
Bath County.
Mention of author was Robert Perry Rhea, references for William Rhea of Green
County, Kentucky(William Rhea, Sr.'s son)

It should be mentioned here that in the Records of Augusta County, Virginia
there are many variations for the spelling of RHEA, for example, REACH,
REAGH, REAUGH, REAH, REA, REGH, RAIGH, REAOH, and ocasionally, RAY

In Thomas MEEK will (REF. 12), he refers to his daughter, Elizabeth, as
Elizabeth REAH, and to his daughter, Martha, who was William's brother
Robert's first wife, as Marth REAh. In the Will of William Rhea of Bath Co.,
VA he refers to all of his children as REACH, but signs the will "RHEA"
Robert GAY spelled it REAGHA and REAGHE in his will, but ti was witnessed and
signed by William RHEA. In the Green and Barren Counties, Kentucky records,
the name is usually spelled RHEA. One exception is the William BROWNLEE and
William "RAY" deed.
