Pat, I came across an article titled GAY FAMILIES OF AUGUSTA AND ROCKBRIDGE
COUNTIES, VIRGINIA by Robert H. Montgomery. Even though the name is listed
as Gay there is a lot of mention of the Rhea Ray etc name. This talks about
the Beverley grantor of some land. First mention is of a Henry Gay who is
documented as being there as early as 1744. It goes on to mention two
Williams, some Roberts etc. There are are some Campbells mentioned. In
reading this article I feel this might be another spelling of the Ray name in
that many of the people's names seem to be interconnecting. Has anyone else
read this article and documented if this is the same family. He first
mentions William Gay who died in 1755 and was called William the immigrant.
I am of the Archibald, William, Robert, William, David, David, Jehiel, Guy,
line. I will send more on my family later but am wondering about this
article. Would like to know if anyone else has come across this article and
the results of their research. The second william above settled in Ohio and
is buried here so a lot of my research is concentrated here. Connie Rhea
Rowe
