Subject: embarrassed plea for patience
Date: Thu, 20 Mar 1997 12:37:10 -0500 (EST)
Dear cousins--
This is a message for all of you. I am sending this message to each of the
surname lists I am subscribed to, something I do not normally do. Please
forgive me if you see it more than once.
Someone on one of the surname lists just flamed me (personally--not on the
list) for letting 10 days elapse without thanking him for two lines of
information he sent me. Though I found his approach to be rude, he is correct
in that I do owe him thanks for this info, which allowed me to rule out one
possibility for the parentage of one of my ancestors.
I'm not writing this to complain about that person, but to ask for further
patience from those others of you to whom I owe thanks or in some cases have
promised to share information.
I have not forgotten any of you. I have a list of people I need to write to
and am making my way through it. But heart problems have kept me from
spending as much time in front of the computer as I need to in order to keep
up with my mail, and this may not change at any time in the near future
(unless I go further downhill, then I'll need a transplant). I have good days
and bad days, and last week was not one of the best.
These very health problems, however, are what allow me to work on genealogy
at all, since I would otherwise be too busy working at a job right now.
I don't mean for this to be a plea for sympathy, and I don't mean to be let
off the hook for my obligations to those I am turning to for help with the
project that is keeping me from wasting away. All I ask is patience when it
comes to how long it takes me to respond, now and in the future.
On the other hand, things do get lost in the mail, so it never hurts to
simply ask whether I received your message.
Sorry to take up bandwidth this way. I don't really find my personal problems
an appropriate topic of discussion, but I felt I owed you all an explanation.
And a heartfelt thanks to every one of you.
