Hello to you all.

My name is Averil from Sydney, Australia and the RALPH side of my family =
have given me aches and itchy bites since first trying to track them =
down over a year ago...up until yesterday that is!! Will 'try' to keep =
it brief by editing 'bits' of the letter received!!

"Dear Averil. Many thanks for your letter re Leahs and Ralphs. It was =
very strange to receive it for two reasons, one was that my grandmother =
used to live in Bulkeley Street, Stockport and I spent many holidays =
there and the strangest of all was that three or four years ago for a =
university project I wrote an essay comparing the differing =
circumstances of two families in Edgeley over a 50 year period. One was =
a branch of my Leahs and the other one - chosen completely at random - =
was the Ralph family! How is that for coincidence?"

There is quite a bit of dialogue...then

"Jmes Ralph, born about 1823 in Norfolk, married a Sarah, born about =
1819 in Macclesfield, Cheshire. Children were Margaret, born 1846 in =
Sandbach, Cheshire. Edward born 1848 in Staffordshire. Frederick, born =
1849 in Macclesfield. James, born 1850 in Macclesfield. Isaac born in =
1851 in Rayner, Macclesfield. Sarah Jane, born 1856 in Stockport. Mary =
born 1859 in Stockport. Ellen born in 1860 in Stockport.

James senior was a shoe maker living in 16 Bulkelely Street, Stockport =
in the 1861 Census - moving to no. 10 Bulkeley Street, Stockport in =
1902!!! =20

By 1881 Edward (a labourer in a cotton printing works) had married a =
Jane and had two children - Thomas, born 1873 and Kate born 1880.

Frederick (also a labourer living in Stockport) was married to a =
Harriet and they had a daughter Harriet, born 1880.

James (a weaver) married Ann and they lived in Tintwistle. They had two =
children, Isaac born 1874 and Sarah, born 1879.

Isaac (coal heaver) was married to Sarah and they lived in Edgeley. =
They had four children, Sarah J. born 1873 William botn 1875, Ellen born =
1878 and Isaac, born 1880.

She went onto say that an elderly aunt who lived in Bulkeley Street =
during the 1940-1950 period remembers a Ralph family living there so it =
looks as if either EdwardFrederick or Isaac moved back after their =
father died. =20

She said that she had become quite attached to the Ralph family during =
the course of her project and it was like meeting old friends. They =
were quite a contrast to the Leah family who had been in a different =
house and different family unit in each census whereas the Ralphs were =
so stable and the only changes really were children leaving to get =
married.

Please excuse me if I went on a little toooo long........Bye for now. =20
