certificates and notices, as well as family lore. This group of
Reiff's may be related to no one on this list, but one always hopes.
Both Joseph Reiff (number 1) and his son John B. Reiff were married
twice.

Gage Co., Nebr. with six children and wife Emma last of 1890. There
settled on farm close to Brethren Church, of which he was a lay
minister who used to read from the pulpit on Sundays. Old friends
said he owned large number of farms in Nebraska, but lost all but home
farm in California land speculation. Martha: Came from Tenn. to Gage
Co., Nebr. at age 10. Her mother apparently worked as housekeeper for
John B. Reiff. Remembered by grandchildren as a tall, stern woman but
loving grandmother. Pacifist. Angry when grandson Joseph Wendell
Reiff joined Boy Scouts, because he then "had to wear a uniform and
march." Wore long dresses and sunbonnets of the time. Sunday garb
was long black coat and black bonnet.

little lace cap of Brethren and Mennonites.

where worked for Littleton Public Schools maintenance dept. until
second retirement. Gladys: Taught in one room school after normal
school training. After marriage, moved into house with mother-in-law,
Martha Reiff, and sister-in-law, Elva. Said it was difficult, but in a
year Martha and Elva moved to Holmseville. Upon loss of family farm
and move to Peru, Nebr., ran boarding house for college boys and
prepared lunch for teachers in her home. At Estes Park, she was salad
cook for Fall River Lodge. When moved to Greeley, worked as clerk and
bookkeeper for Utter's (later Garretson's) Jewelry, then Clough
Furniture.
