I have found traces in Coffee, Van Buren, Warren,Grundy. Here's my brick wall:
Robert QUALLS b. ca. 1848 TN, d. ca. 1878 TN, m. ca 1868 TN to a cousin, Elizabeth Louisa QUALLS b. 4 Jan 1854 TN. Her father (so family lore says) was a Methodist preacher and I am searching right now a William QUALLS who indeed was a Methodist preacher in Coffee Co. Robert and Louisa had two daughters:
Elizabeth QUALLS, b. 20 Sept 1869 TN, m. Elijah Burt 6 March 1887 Coffee Co TN.
Hattie Ann QUALLS, b. 12 Feb 1872 possibly Manchester, Warren Co TN.
Supposedly Robert died when his oldest daughter Elizabeth was 13 years old.
Any information or advise you can offer will be more than welcome. Mary Marler Winham

Where in TN is your husband's family from? I might be able to help you with any Qualls who are from Roane County, TN.
