Greetings all,
I am the administrator of the "QUEEN-SCOTLAND" mailing list. I started this
list in 2004 in the hopes of attracting the interest of Queens in Scotland
and elsewhere in Europe. The hope was that this list would grow (by
participation of Queens in/of Scotland) and that, as well as benefitting
European Queens, perhaps a connection would be made between Queens in
Scotland and Queens in America. Americans were discouraged from posting on
this list since we have our own "QUEEN" mailing list in America that has
been very active since about 1998.
A visit to the QUEEN-SCOTLAND archives will reveal the contents of my early
posts to the list in an effort to emphasize the Scottish nature of this
list. It was truly to be a "Scottish" list. Listed below are the posts for
the entire year of 2004.

Currently there are only 6 subscribers to the list including myself. Three
of these subscribers are American. One or two of the remaining three may be
American.
Sadly, this is where we stand. There have been very few posts to
QUEEN-SCOTLAND by anyone, even though the list was publicized by rootsweb.
I'm searching for straws as to how to get Queens in Scotland and Europe to
get involved in family research and use this list in the manner in which it
was intended - for them.
ALL messages that have been posted to QUEEN-SCOTLAND can be viewed by
visiting the list archives at:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=queen-scotland
It appears that I am the only American who has posted to this list - and the
information I have posted is, I believe, Scottish only, data.
We do know that there is ONE person of Scottish origin on this list and that
person is very much appreciated. Hopefully, we will see 2, then 3, then
more. But, I've thus far been unable to pull it off.
................................................................
Now, as to posts concerning "Old William" and American Queens, my guess is
that Sharon is also subscribed to . If true, this would
explain all the messages concerning American Queens, since the list is
primarily used by Americans - but is certainly open to all anywhere in the
world.
I refer to this statement of Sharon: "I have been reading all emails
comming through with relish looking forward to exchanging info.
Unfortunately I have discovered that this email list is really QUEEN
AMERICA." Actually, it is merely "QUEEN". (The few and only e-mails to
QUEEN-SCOTLAND in the past two years have been posted by 2 or 3 people
only.)
If I am correct, then you may end all messages coming to you from "Queen"
list by following these instructions: To unsubscribe from the list, please
send an email to with the word 'unsubscribe'
without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message .
This will not affect your subscription to "QUEEN-SCOTLAND" list.
..............................................................
If I am incorrect, and if American Queens are contacting you personally,
then simply advise the writers that you do not wish to be contacted.
.....................................................................
You are correct in that not every Queen in America descends from William
Queen of 1716 (aka "old William). Over a hundred researchers in America who
are members of "QUEEN" list have been working for years thru data sharing
and YDNA testing to "break-up" the American Queens into various sub-groups.
Indications thus far are that some of the earlier arrivals came from
England, Ireland and Scotland. But, they are only indications. No proof
yet.
.................................................................
I will privately respond to your question concerning DNA testing and how it
helps "sort out" Queens and others.
...............................................................
Finally, I understand your frustration. It was good for you to vent and let
it out. (I'm known on Queen-L for venting my frustrations at times.)
Relax, breathe in and out a bit, then let's get on with the hunt for our
ancestors wherever they may be/have been.
Gene
