Hi Gene,
I live in South Yorkshire now, but I am Glaswegian. I have only lived in
England for 10 years and my family are all still there.
My Queen's started as a real puzzle I did not know my mothers maiden name is
technically Queen. I will give you the information I have so far.
James Queen born circa 1790 (Ireland) marries Margaret Kenlin. (information
from death cert).
Children
Owen Queen born 1818
Patrick Queen born circ 1819
James Queen born circa 1817
(There will be more just have not found them yet)
Owen Queen married Elizabeth Reid circa 1848 (I think again no record in
Scotland)
Children Elizabeth Queen born 1849 West Calder (Again apart from census
records which she states she was born there, there is not birth record)
Catherine Queen born 1851 Edinburgh
John Queen born 23.8.1855 Carnwath
Owen Queen born 24.10.1858 Carnwath
Alexander Queen 9.8.1860 Carnwath
Elizabeth Queen is my ggg grandmother.
She married an Andrew Neil on 7/8/1868. This is were my mums maiden name
comes from.
After looking closely at the family I discovered that Elizabeth had a son
William born 1867 at Kirknewton he was illegitimate. He called himself Neil
though and that is what is on his marriage cert. He was my gg grandfather.
He married a Margaret Mullen 1867 in Bathgate West Lothian. Elizabeth's
illegitimate child William is my g grandfather he was born in 28.10.1892 and
died at Fernigair Pit in Hamilton in 1917 aged 25. His Son Owen Finnigan
Neil (no-one knew it should be queen) is my granda he died in about 1979
In Glasgow, his daughter Eileen is my mum.
I think this will probably disappoint you as I seem to come from the female
line.
Would be very happy to correspond. I am going home in August (school
holidays) and I am hoping to gain more information there. Hoping to go to
the Mitchell Library and General Registrars Office, If I am feeling very
morbid I might even do some graveyards.
There were several Queen families in 1841 and 1851 and 1861 census do not
know if they are connected but there were 4 Owen Queens about at this time.
I have not went forward as I am still digging but this family intrigues me,
probably because I did not know they existed. Finding out info in Ireland
is almost impossible due to lack to records. I don't even know their
Religion Elizabeth married in Church of Scotland but I have came across lots
of mixed marriages. I suspect from the name Queen we are possibly looking
at Ulster (maybe Fermanagh)
My email is

Hi Sharon,
I reside in North Carolina, USA. From your UK address it appears that you
live on our "mother" continent. May I have your permission to send a
private e-mail to your address? Feel free to respond to my e-mail address
or to this list.
I'd like to chat a bit regarding possibilities, perhaps remote, of finding
Queens in Scotland/Ireland to participate on this list.
Oops, please tell us that you descend from a male Queen somewhere in the
past. There must be one "Queen" in the UK who is interested in our past.
Thanks,
Gene
