Hi Joe,

Using the information that Joseph-David is your Dad and that is the only
family and dates that made any sense this is what I have found.
Joseph Lacroix if the gedcom the other lister sent you is accurate and I
think it is..was in fact born and baptised to that couple in July of 1857 at
Farnham St-Romuald. I looked at it myself and will send you the image if
you wish.

If Joseph Lacroix born 1857 is the husband of Marie Charron, I think you
will find that Marie's parents are Desire Charron aka Ezra and Adeline
Chaput. They are from the Granby, Shefford area of Canada.

How did I arrive at this. I wondered how Marie and Joseph met. Since
Joseph didn't seem to move out of southern New England I figured that the
Charron family must have moved from northern New England, south. And they
did. Probably sometime shortly after Marie was born. They had other
children baptised in Canada. I looked. Since that was their custom, if
they didn't have Marie baptised in Vermont, they did in Connecticut. In
that case there will be a church record in one place or another. I don't
know if it was occasional custom of this family to use a dit/e name but it's
possible that the record will state something else. There are many dit/e
names for that surname. It is unlikely that they stated with such
specificity their kids were born all over the place if they were not. I
found them on the 1870 census in Connecticut and on and on. In the 1880
census they stated that they had moved to the states around 1862. This is
probably accurate. Desire Charron and Adeline Chaput's children were born
in various places according to the census records. Specifically, Canada,
Vermont (Marie wasn't the only one born in Vermont) and Connecticut.
Hope this helps.

Deb

Hi Deb

In the thirty some odd years searching for the birth place of Marie
(Charron)LaCroix Have been to Baltic Ct.,Brandon Vt.and the Vital Statistics
Dept. in Ct.,still no luck.I believe she was born in Canada and on route to
the states she saw Brandon and figured that would be a great place to be
born.

Have a great day, Joe

Hi Joe,
That is so true. The informants sometimes don't know what they don't know.
I've been wondering if you checked with the church (for Marie Charron)
listed in that gedcom the other lister sent to you. Armed with that info
and the actual name used you could then go to the town clerk - there may be
a specific location mentioned in the church record. Just a thought.

Hi Bud

The 13 children they would be my aunts and uncles except Joseph David my
father.
Over thirty years ago I went to Brandon Vt. to do research on my grandmother
but came away empty.People back then made up things where born, age, name, and
who knows what else. It happened in my own family.
Death certificates are only as good as the person giving the information.

Have a great,Joe

This all doesn't add up, Frank. Hoping Joe will fill in some details so we
can help him. For example, are these 10 children his family? Does he know
who they are? He said his grandparents lived in Baltic, and they are
LaCroixs/LaCrosses formerly Babins. "My grandparents lived in Baltic Conn,
just when they arrived I have no idea. I know they had 13 children. Mary
Charron was born in Brandon Vt." He should be able to find death and
marriage certs which would straighten this out. Another thing: Everyone is
looking in Qu├ębec for these people in Farnham, but it seems they were from
Ontario - Faham. He even drove there.

Hi Joseph and Russell;

I found the same family in Sprague, but the dates for the father and mother
being different from what Joe sent, I discounted that.

But at leats now I know that Baltic is a village in Sprague.

As you say, Russell, "very perplexing" no Joseph Babin born in 1886 in
Frarham, nor any Lacroix from Joe's family. If Jean Baptiste (Joseph was
born in 1886 and Mary Leonora Charron in 1876, preseumably we should be able
to find them at the very least in the 1930 census for Sprague or in the
FamilySearch records of births, marrtiages or deaths - but nothing there
either.

Question for Joe: Is your 1886 date is correct?. Where did you get the
1886 year from? From Farnham? Yet, I couldn't find him in 1886.

I was curious, so I took a look at this.

The 1910 census for Sprague (Baltic is a village there) Town, New London
County, CT shows a large LaCroix family there which fits some of your
parameters. The family is there in 1900, 1920 and 1930.

Joseph - born c1857 CAN
Mary - b. c1869 VT
Henry - b. c1889 RI
Alberta (Albina in latter censuses) - b. c1892 RI
Ida - b. c1894 RI
Wilfred - b. c1896 RI
Charles - b. c1898 RI
Joseph Jr. - b. c1900 CT
Evan (Eveline in later censuses) - b. c1904 CT
Louis - b. c1906 CT
Edward - b. c1908 CT
Emma - b. 1910 CT

There were 13 children born to this couple, only 10 living. The mother was
born in Vermont. There is a Joseph Jr. The Rhode Island children were born
in Natick, RI.

I cannot find a Joseph LaCroix born in 1886 in Ontario and later in the
states.

Your grandmother, Marie Leonora Charron is 9 years older than your
grandfather?

If not your direct ancestors, they are certainly close relatives.

Very perplexing!

Hi Frank

Thank you for you quick reply. My grandparents lived in Baltic Conn, just
when they arrived I have no idea. I know they had 13 children. Mary Charron
was born in Brandon Vt., this is not true as I wrote to Branbon but they had
nothing on her so I went up there and nothing could be found.I believe she
came out of Canada. Again thank you for your quick reply. Joe
