Good afternoon,

As a follow-up to this previous thread, the baptism of the wife of Joseph Thibodeau, Marie-Anne Martin, was not found, either. She would have been born around 1801 according to her census age. It seems no one born at St-Basile between 1799 & 1803 is recorded.

Yes, I found the marriage as well. Very interesting. There are no baptisms of any children of this couple in any of the on-line registers between 1795 and 1800. It stands to reason there were two or three children born to the couple during that period. To French Catholics of that time, the church was all encompassing. To not baptise their children is unthinkable. I guess this is one of those rare circumstances where the records were either not recorded or lost.

The parents of these children were
RRDH Couple   JOSEPH  THIBODEAU
Father : JEAN BAPTISTE  THIBODEAU   Mother : MARIE FRANCOISE  BABIN
and     MARIE JOSEPHE  COTE
Father : PIERRE  COTE   Mother : MARIE JOSEPHE  ALBERT
Marriage:  1795-09-28    L'Isle-Verte
====================
I check RAB du PRDH and found no children born to the couple before 1799.
Joseph's parents were from Acadie.
Union 1762-02-22 Acadie  THIBODEAU  JEAN-BAPTISTE & BABIN  MARIE-FRANCOISE

Maybe Joseph & his wife moved out Quebec for a period.
Joseph's brother Etienne married Judith Paradis in 1795 (same year as
Joseph) in Kamouraska and she died St-Basile NB in 1820

Good luck
Renee

Check this interesting page at URL
http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=1110&path=S.St-Basile.1792-
1837.44&sid=&gskw=&cr=1. Looks like there were no sacraments performed at
St-Basile between 1799 and 1803, if I read it correctly (I never attended
French school, unfortunately). They were covered at St-André as suggested in
another post. I checked 1800 (24 pages) St-André and nothing. Looks as
though the priest "covered" things by performing late baptisms, and he got
the birth days incorrect for one or both of them. It would seem likely that
since he had exact month and days, that one was off by a year. Probably
asked how old each was then subtracted incorrectly. So my plan is to use the
Simon Thibodeau birth date with explanation. It would seem Firmin/Fermin was
the older brother; perhaps he was born in 1799 (I'll check PRDH). Thanks for
an interesting and helpful discussion on this.

The answer to that question, Bud, is obvious to every woman on this list,
and one that is learned rather quickly by most clergy who perform baptisms:
premature birth of the second child.
