You don't say but your example looks like it comes from the index of
non-Catholic events for Montreal. What it's telling you is that the marriage
of James Porteous and Lydia Sparks is in the parish register of Centenary
Church (I'm not sure which denomination but I think it may be Methodist) for
the year 1896 on page 9. Each page has 2 sides so a 'v' means the record is
on the 'verso' or back side.
You can get copies from any branch of the Archives Nationales du Quebec. Try
the Montreal branch at . They charge per page
plus postage with a minimum charge of $2.
