Frank, since you mention Kaemmerer (has nothing to do with Gemberling,
etc.)
this is what the Anhalt-Zerbst Monograph by Virginia DeMarce says
about him in the Appendix 2:

CAMERER, Jacques-Christophe. Son of Jacques-Christophe Camerer
and Susan Schneider of the city of Gothe (Gotha) Thuringia, Germany.
He married 17.January 1785, St.-Jean-Port-Joli, Marguerite Guignard,
daughter of Jean GUIGNARD and Elisabeth NADEAU; later lived at
St. Cuthbert. The children married at Sorel. The name became French as
CAMARAIRE, and English as CAMERON (Gingras).
One good old German name KAEMMERER disappaered in the records.
